Can gardening cause cancer?

Countless people enjoy working in their yards. Having a manicured landscape around your home can be welcoming and improve your property value, but is it safe?

Many people use chemicals such as Roundup to treat their flowers and gardens. And countless others use it to treat fields, golf greens and crops. But while Americans continue using weed killer, more and more are filing lawsuits related to product liability.

What kind of price tag can you put on your disease?

A federal jury recently determined Roundup is liable for a man’s non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Bayer AG purchased Monsanto, the maker of the herbicide, in 2018.

Awarding $80 million for the man’s cancer, the court found that:

  • Monsanto failed to issue warnings about Roundup’s cancer risk
  • Roundup’s design is defective
  • Monsanto acted negligently

However, how does the company warn the public about the potential dangers of the product?

Does Monsanto warn about the hazards of Roundup?

Worldwide, there have been numerous news reports discussing the possible connection between Roundup and cancer. And while many experts assert that Roundup is carcinogenic, some believe there is insufficient evidence that glyphosate, the main ingredient in Roundup, causes cancer.

The company’s master label mentions potential hazards to the eyes and skin. It also recommends that those using the product wear gloves, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt during application. In addition, you are to throw away clothing items which become “heavily contaminated” with the herbicide. However, nowhere does the label mention cancer.

You might be eligible to recover damages

No amount of money can substitute as a cure for cancer. However, if you believe you suffer due to the effects of a defective product, you might be wise to explore your options.
